The cocktail really took off in the 1980’s along with MTV, neon lights, and Sandals Resorts vacation packages. It didn’t take long for the popularity of the mocktail (the non-alcoholic cousin) to follow.
There are many reasons people seek a mocktail when out with their friends, family, and/or coworkers who are free to indulge in the usual libations. It may be a lifestyle choice, a dietary restriction, an age limitation, a designated driver designation, a bun-in-the-oven or other matter altogether. Whichever the case, it can be a bummer when witnessing the rest of one’s party raise colorful cocktail glasses and cheers in unison when you’re stuck with a bottle of Dasani or Aquafina. The clinging of glasses against plastic just doesn’t have the same literal ring to it.
Simply put, you should not have to miss out on the fun and Instagram opportunities that a traditional cocktail affords, which is why Salsa & Agave (ever-sensitive to the dietary needs of all) has put together a mocktail menu unrivaled anywhere else in Vancouver BC.
A Delicious Mocktail Menu to Keep You from Feeling Left Out When Out on the Town in Vancouver
Our city-wide famous margaritas need not be out of reach when alcohol is not an option. They taste amazing, and if you don’t relish the flavor of tequila (we don’t judge) you won’t be missing a thing without the alcohol content. Plus, we make sure the visual presentation is on point, so that it maintains all of the panache that a traditional margarita has, without the consequence. If you’re an expectant mother you’ll get a kick out of the aghast expressions on the faces of onlookers who think you’re sipping on the real deal! Just make sure you tell them before they come over and knock your mocktail off the table.
While the word pseudo means artificial, there is nothing fake about our virgin paloma. Allow us to dive into another definition which will help explain. Paloma is Spanish for “dove”, which is an appropriate name for this drink that is inherently light and subtle, if not downright tender. And while the traditional order of this is based with tequila, the virgin version keeps the whimsical grapefruit-flavor in tact, and will have you hitting our patio to soak up the sun with multiple orders of this drink, no matter the season.
The word caricature may mean parody, but while this rendition of everyone’s favorite Sunday cocktail is vodka free, it carries all of the cachet, complete with Clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, salt, Tabasco, and all of the great taste you demand from an otherwise traditional caesar. All hail!
A traditional michelada is prepared with beer, tomato juice, lime juice, and a bartender’s choice of hot sauces, spices, and peppers, and is served in a chilled, salt-rimmed glass. Not only is this beverage uniquely delicious, it is also known as a remedy for hangovers, which makes its placement on this list somewhat (or directly?) ironic. Since hangovers aren’t your problem, you won’t miss the impact of the cerveza part of the affair, and will enjoy all of the other ingredients along with fresh mineral water in it’s place. It’s honestly a hard drink to describe “on paper”, but once you taste it you’ll know why it has made this list as a top mocktail in Vancouver.
Feel free to ask your server about other mocktail possibilities behind the bar at our downtown Vancouver establishment. But we most certainly recommend that you try one (or all!) of the above on your next visit to Salsa & Agave.
We look forward to serving you!
